Facebook Ads Q&A
“Can I run Facebook ads if I don’t have a website?”
My answer: absolutely!!
The minimum requirement for running Facebook Ads is a Facebook business page. That’s it. If you want to run Instagram ads, you also need an Instagram page connected to your business page too but if you’re running a business, chances are you have one or both of these anyway.
Some people have asked if they need to use Leadpages or Clickfunnels to run their ads instead of a website. In most cases, you really don’t need the extra expense. In fact, some platforms such as Mailchimp have a free landing page option which you can pixel (in other words, you can track actions and optimise for form completions, if that’s your goal).
I’m Jess Brookes, Facebook ads agency owner and ads strategist – I’ve been managing ads for clients for the last few years, and have extensive experience in digital marketing (nearly 20 years to be precise). As one of the leading ads coaches, I’ve advised and mentored 1000s of students in a range of niches across the globe too.
I’ve run successful client campaigns solely using their business page in the past using Messenger. You can easily build audiences using a video or a short blog-style post on your Facebook page. And then retarget those people with another ad, and so on. Value can also be delivered via Messenger – if you have a PDF lead magnet or an offer code, for example – you can send this to people through FB Messenger who become subscribers by clicking on a Messenger ad.
Another option is to use the lead generation campaign where the lead form is hosted within Facebook itself AKA ‘Instant Form’ – no need to build out a landing page! You have the option to ask multiple questions to ensure leads are more qualified, and of course without having to leave the platform, there is less friction and more chance of someone completing the opt-in process. The form also pre-populates a user’s details such as name, to save time and reduce friction too.
It really depends what your objectives are to decide if you need a landing page or website; in other words, what you want to achieve from running ads?
Do you want to sell a product that can only be done via your website? If you want to build your email list, think about using Mailchimp landing pages, the Facebook lead form, or use Messenger to collect subscribers and emails.
Sometimes it only makes sense to run the ads to a website, but there is always a way around it if your business doesn’t have a website. Just make sure your pixel is installed and tested using the Google Chrome pixel extension.
